Check in, check out..
THIS IS CHINA…PART I
You check into to 4 star a hotel. After many complications you manage to get
yourself understood and the staff writes the rate on a little piece of a dozen
times used paper. It says 130 RMB – I say ok. Is there Internet connection in the
room? Yes, yes. Just to be sure I show them my laptop and give them a
pantomime of attaching the connection cable…. yes, yes.
30 minutes later I have the electronic key in my hand heading for the room.
It has one minimal window, otherwise ok – but strange for being 4 star. I am
looking for the Internet connection…soon searching desperately. Nothing even
remote that looks like one.
Down to the lobby and after furthermore 30 minutes I do have another room that
has Internet. Kristian's room is supposed to similar. Same price and same
request. It has a cable all right. But it does not work.
‘Three days later when we check out - that takes more than an hour – I find out
that the rate has climbed to 180 RMB/night.
No way and after some 15 minutes they have the manager on the line who
graciously offers, as compromise 160 RMB/ night. I refuse and remind them also
that the other rooms Internet connection never worked.
They are very sorry but 160 it is…until the pick their own registration card that
says 150 RMB/ night..
I give and pay…
